Legislative Update #8

City Council held a regular meeting May 4th at 7 pm. Four pieces of legislation were introduced and four were adopted.
Resolution 3906 authorizing a partnership agreement between the City of BG and Wood County, regarding 2026 Community Housing Impact and Preservation (CHIP) funds from the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) and authorizing the Mayor to execute said agreement was introduced and adopted after the rules were suspended and it was given its second and third readings. This allows BG residents to use CHIP, Lead Safe, CDBG, and other funding for home repairs.
Ordinance 9355 providing supplemental and/or amending appropriations for the current fiscal year was introduced and adopted after the rules were suspended and it was given its second and third readings. This appropriated grant funds.
Ordinance 9356 creating Section 35.42 of the Codified Ordinances, related to Deposit of Public Moneys was introduced. This adopts a policy for handling and depositing public money in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 9.38.
Ordinance 9357 granting an easement to Columbia Gas for the Evergreen Terrace Gas Service Upgrade Project and declaring an emergency was introduced. A gas line connection will go through City property, an easement was requested.
Resolution 3905 authorizing the Municipal Administrator to give consent, enter into contracts, and execute appropriate documents for Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for Project ID no. 114710 was adopted. This relates to work ODOT will be doing on the Napoleon Rd bridgedeck over I-75 in 2027.
Ordinance 9348 authorizing the development of a Solar Generation Project and authorizing the Utilities Director to negotiate and enter into required agreements for the project was adopted. The City is in the process of developing solar fields estimated at 10-12 megawatts.
Also at this meeting, former Council member Greg Robinette was presented with Resolution 3901, honoring him for his service on City Council.
The next Council meeting will be Monday, May 18 at 7 pm in Council Chambers.
Ordinances 9351 amending and adopting Chapter 33 of the Codified Ordinances, regarding employment policies, Ordinance 9353 creating section 124 of the Codified Ordinances, concerning Short-Term Rentals, and Ordinance 9354 amending and adopting certain sections of Chapter 150, regarding zoning code will be receiving third readings. Ordinance 9354 will likely be tabled until after its public hearing June 1 at 6:30 pm.
